CREATING SPACE - Theresa Paton

Nucleus Gallery, 272 High Street, Chatham ME4 4BP

ADMISSION FREE

This debut exhibition by British artist Theresa Paton features a large sculptural installation and a selection of small sculptures made over the last eight months of her degree.

Often depicting retreat, Paton's work elaborates on the continuum of rhythm and pattern and is concerned with mathematics and natural cycles. Whilst investigating movement, the work observes the ebb and flow of motion that generates a vortex, creating space. Through repetition, the work explores the building blocks of growth, whilst at the same time considering the formal relationships between balance, line, space and form. The work advocates an organic and free flowing structure, whilst the composition recognises the interplay between geometric sculpture and architectural space. Paper and card are frequently used as a medium to convey the importance of recycling and emphasise the endurance and resilience of nature, whilst expressing fragility of form.
