06.07.09 - NUCLEUS MEDWAY EXTENDS ITS WELCOME AND CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS

NUCLEUS Medway will be extending its opening hours and welcoming visitors seven days a week throughout July.

Now in its fourth month at Chatham Maritime, NUCLEUS Medway has surpassed everybody's expectations by selling over £30,000 of work produced by local creative talent despite the poor economic climate.  Over 250 artists, designers, writers and musicians from the Medway area have now registered to exhibit work, lending their support to the not-for-profit project that is set to bolster the Medway arts scene by providing an accessible platform from which to promote and sell locally produced artwork and designs.

The extended opening hours are being facilitated by a team of volunteers selected from the roster of exhibiting artists. However we would be delighted to hear from anybody willing to lend some time to help staff the gallery and promote our home grown talent.  Volunteers with an interest or passion for the creative arts are particularly welcome as our visitors appreciate a degree of knowledge in this area.

Further information can be obtained by emailing nucleus@thenac.co.uk or calling the NAC on 01634 812108 during normal office hours.

In the meantime please bare with us - you may find whole pages missing or information wrongly signposted.  Rest assured we're on the case and normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

If you need to contact us you can email on mail@thenac.co.uk or call us between 10-5 Mon-Fri on 01634 812108.

15.05.09 - NUCLEUS ARTISTS BACK IN ROCHESTER FOR COFFEE

Local artists and designers from Medway have been given another chance to showcase their creations on Rochester High Street thanks to a new partnership between NUCLEUS and the Rochester Coffee Co.

Many Rochester shoppers were sad when NUCLEUS announced it was relocating its retail outlet for Medway's creative arts to its current location in Chatham Maritime.  But thanks to NUCLEUS' determination to forge mutually profitable partnerships with local businesses, local creative talent is once more being promoted on Rochester High Street.

A handpicked selection of work from NUCLEUS' 200+ register of artists, designers and craftspeople is now on display in The Rochester Coffee Co., a new coffee shop located opposite historic Eastgate House.  The work includes photographs, paintings and drawings of Rochester's most famous landmarks and ever-evolving landscape, all of which are for sale.

NUCLEUS is always on the lookout for new avenues to promote the work of artists registered with them.  Paula Groves, sculptor and head of NAC Arts Development elaborates:

'NUCLEUS' new site next to Dickens World has been an even greater success than our Rochester shop but we leaped on the chance to exhibit on the High Street again.  We've been getting a really excited reaction from those who have heard the news, which bodes well for all involved.  The Rochester Coffee Co. has such a similar atmosphere to our gallery - relaxed and welcoming - and we're sure the partnership is going to bring sales for our artists and attract new customers into the coffee shop.'

Local artists wanting to take advantage of NUCLEUS' many exhibition opportunities should email nucleus@thenac.co.uk or see our registration page for more details.

The Rochester Coffee Co. can be found at 146 High Street, Rochester, Kent.
